About the Aroostook Deputies' Union - NEPBA Local 601 |
||
The Union represents the law enforcement division of the Sheriff's Office, which is made up of the following elements:
The transportation unit is responsible for moving both pre-trial and sentenced inmates between the County Jail and courts, other county facilities and state correctional facilities. This unit also collects inmates arrested and temporarily housed at any of 10 local departments in The County. This unit also transports those patients who have been involuntarily committed to any of nearly a dozen psychiatric units in the state. Two full-time members (a lieutenant and a deputy) are assigned to this unit.
The patrol unit consists of five member deputies, a sergeant and a lieutenant who are tasked with patroling assigned areas of the county. Aroostook County has a resource sharing agreement with the state police, which designates zones covered by each agency, that rotate on a weekly basis. The Deputies assigned to this unit are responsible to respond to citizen complaints, investigate criminal activity, conduct traffic enforcement, investigate traffic accidents, conduct drug interdiction activities, and a myriad of other duties.
Three deputies, a seargeant and a lieutenant are assigned full-time to criminal investigations. One detective is responsible for general crime and the other is assigned primarily to domestic violence related investigations. Three deputies are assigned to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, conducting and/or managing drug investigations.
The training sergeant is responsible for coordinating all recruitment, hiring and training for not only the law enforcement division, but for the corrections division as well. The training sergeant tracks all state mandated training as well as elective training attended by the members.
A sergeant is responsible for managing the communications division. In that role this sergeant also manages the arrest warrant repository for the entire county and also coordinates the Crimestoppers program. |
